T H E S O U K.

SOUK lah NOT ZOUK XD

being in the middle east, i came to realise how beautiful and lively it could be at night(eventhough boring at times XP).

During Thursday and Friday nights, people here go to the SOUK (an old town that is kept since the 1800s) to sing and dance as cultural activities. Instead of going to malls and shopping(more of wasting time and $$ LOL) like the most of us, they go to this place and enjoy the liveliness and colourful lights. eventhough some of them are filthy RICH, they spend their $$ on woven scarfs and real Qatari food most of the time.

my parents, my CUTEE friends and i sitting in an outdoor restaurant and were served the typical Qatari porridge. those people actually BLENDED it like smoothies and it tasted like pure starch. it is so sticky you can use it as glue!

SHISHA, ANYONE? =P there were some really high people smokin' shisha while enjoying the dancing and singing. Shisha is a very popular item here, and they even sell it in CARREFOUR!the cheapest is about RM 30 and is most expensive at RM 200.

this was how it looked like. kind of empty at first but...

it became crowded a few minutes later. all the Qatari women were covered in black and the foreigners and expatriates(as myself) were dressed in conservative clothes. there was a woman singing in the middle of the court, and they weren't like songs you expect to hear. R&B, Pop, Rock, and Trance is a NO NO. it was certainly different but in a way it was beautiful because you learn to respect and experience unique culture.

there was a man sitted not far from where the woman was singing, and he was demonstrating how pearls removed from oysters which are found in the deep ocean. my mum, aunt, and my two cute friends had to kneel down as a sign of respect, but unfortunately i couldn't because i was playing football that day and i hurt myself XD. i'm a damn KLUTZ. SO ANYWAYS, his story was interesting because he explained how backward Qatar was before the booming of the Oil and Petroleum industry. he was one of the first few divers back in those days.

we walked around for a while and went home. it was the first time for me but i guess i'll be going there everyweek XD. and maybe i'll try SHISHA if my parents allow me which i don't think they would.
